Inspection & Testing

Why It's Important

A key part of the work we do at Rocome involves inspection and testing. All of the electrical work we conduct is fully inspected and tested according to the relevant IET Wiring Regulations - BS7671 with certificates issued on completion.

Faulty and old wiring is one of the main causes or electrical fires in the home. You can reduce the risk of a fire by checking the condition of your cables, switches, sockets and other accessories regularly.

We test fixed wiring installations to ensure that they are working safely and that any hidden defects are rectified. You cannot see electricity. Cables are usually hidden inside our walls, and consumer units are often hidden in cupboards, so it is not surprising that we forget to check the condition of our electrical installation for damage or wear and tear.

What’s Involved in an EICR

A fixed wiring inspection (also known as an Electrical Installation Condition Report or EICR) is carried out to ascertain the condition of your electrical installation is safe and of a satisfactory and serviceable condition.

During the inspection and testing process, each circuit’s cable and accessories (switches, fittings and sockets) are inspected for visual damage and the wiring undergoes various tests to ensure it is safe and wired correctly. All this data will be contained in the EICR we provide.

If we spot any defects, we will flag these and make relevant recommendations in the form of a periodic inspection report. It is basically like an MOT for your electrical systems, giving you the peace of mind that everything is running smoothly and that no breakdowns or emergencies are on the horizon.

Who Needs Inspection

Our inspection and testing clients include university students, small business owners, large corporation owners, landlords, letting agents and government employees.

Whether you are a homeowner or running your own business, our inspection and testing services will ensure that you meet any legal, insurance, and health and safety responsibilities that may apply.

Failure to carry out periodic testing of electrical installations could lead to you being prosecuted under health and safety law, as well as putting the lives of people at unnecessary risk, so it is important that inspection and testing is carried out regularly.

Insurance claims may also be invalidated if you do not ensure that your electrical installations are checked regularly. All systems experience wear and tear over time, and it can save you money and reduce risk if they are frequently maintained rather than leaving them to become ineffective or even dangerous.

If you are a homeowner, business owner or landlord, it is important that you know your wiring and appliances are safe for whoever uses them.
